Ad Sense Tips and Tricks

There is a common myth that simply putting Ad Sense on your website will get you some instant cash. If you are one of the millions who have tried this.you know it’s not that easy. Many people simply create the ads and place the code on their site without giving them another thought.

Your ads can be customized in many different ways. Location is probably the most important and first thing you should be thinking about. Where should you be putting your ads? The best locations are in the upper left hand side bar (if you have one), just below the header, and right in the center of the page. One more place you can put it, is just below your text at the bottom of the page.

Let’s move on to the style of your Ad Sense ads. Borders are a big no-no when it comes to Ad Sense ads, yet I still see them around. When you have a border it provides a visual stopping point between your text and the ad. Make your border the same color as your background on your site so that it becomes invisible. Also, the background of the ad itself should be the same as your site.

The title link should be the same color as all other title links in your site/area you are working with. This will draw the surfer’s eyes to it as a click-able link. The text should be the same color as the text you are working with. Also, the little URL at the bottom should be the same color as the text.

Here’s another trick, don’t treat your ads as ads and your customers won’t either. Pretend your ads are links to relevant content, which they are, and give them the same look and feel of your site. Web Surfer’s have developed something called banner blindness, which means they don’t even see ads anymore, particularly image ads. Their brain simply blacks out that area of your site.

Here are a few more tips that may help you along the way. Avoid image ads, opt for the text only version. Make sure that you maximize your ads. At the time this article was written you are allowed 3 text ads, and 3 ad link units, these are the two I use. Be sure that you use them all on your pages.

The Ad link units are best placed in navigational areas. Again, make sure the background and border are the same as what your are using in the area they are to be placed. Also, don’t forget the link color should be the same as the other links. If you have vertical navigation, place the Ad Sense below, above or between the other links. If you have horizontal navigation, you can place it above or below.

Try to get the same size of font as you are using. There are only two sizes, which are determined by the amount of link units. If you have 4 links in the unit, the font will be larger, if you choose 5 links, the font will be smaller. Also consider underlining your links so that they match Google’s.

When having a poor set-up it will indicate that you are not paying enough attention to your online INCOME. Which means you are not going to make the money you are capable of. The promotion of your web site and the systems that help you run your site is the key to your online work. So of course you need to keep track of everything you do with your site and how your site interacts with your potential customers. Also a link checker will only tell you that the links work. Recheck your site for dead links. If you don’t keep up with them frustrated customers may just go to a competitor and may lose you several hundred dollars over time. Things on your site will get moved around, and to forgeting a link that no longer works happens. Keep in mind that making sure everything is current and your descriptions of products and “Terms and Conditions” are not out of date is another key to keeping your site working properly.
